Early Teacher Development Focus
For this issue of the Voyage staff newsletter, our Early Teacher Development Lead Suzie Pell looks at Early Career Teacher standards.
"Next term sees the return of our ECT regional and local events for ECTs and their mentors, which are great events to introduce attendees to the EDT block materials - as well as providing those important opportunities to network.
"If you have not already done so, ensure that your places are booked through the EDT portal as soon as possible – booking closes 10 working days before the event takes place.
"You can log into the Early Career Framework by clicking here.
"Friday, 8th March is the next deadline for the Statutory Induction Progress Review and Assessments for our ECTs.
"There is a slight change to the reporting system this term, which means the progress of ECTs against Teachers’ Standards will be graded.
"The grades are as follows:
A – On track to exceed satisfactory progress
B – On track to make satisfactory progress
C – Not on track to make satisfactory progress
- Support Intervention Plan (informal)
D – Cause for Concern
- Formal Support Plan
"The Appropriate Body are keen to ensure that it is the progress, not the ECT, that is being graded.
"The reason for this change is to support advice from the Statutory Induction that ECTs should not be surprised when receiving their report (2.58: ECTs should be kept up-to-date on their progress. There should be nothing unexpected) and that this grading will support a transparent dialogue around progress."
