Inclusion Update

Here, our SEND Improvement and Inclusion Lead Maxine Cunningham gives us an update on the latest training and guidance around the topic of inclusion.

Autism Awareness Training

On Wednesday, 15th November, more than 200 team members attended training provided by The Working Together Team.

The session, entitled ‘Making Sense of Autism’, was aimed at enhancing staff understanding of how Autism impacts learners in an educational setting. It also focused on broadening the expertise of staff in recognising each learner's unique strengths and differences, refining staff skills in identifying potential learning barriers for autistic students, and deepening their understanding of the necessary 'reasonable adjustments' that should be implemented to provide effective support within the educational environment.

Thank you to all who attended!

Do You Incorporate The ‘5-A-Day’?

Do you know what the '5-A-Day' are? How are you utilising them in your own classroom practice? If you are not - how could you start?

The EEF has produced a handy reflection tool for teachers (there is a separate one for TAs) to use to consider how they incorporate the approach into their day-to-day teaching. You can find the document by clicking here.

Perhaps at the beginning of term 3, you could make a conscious decision to plan to incorporate all 5 in your day? Perhaps you could plan in one approach more than you do currently?

I am keen to hear from anyone who has trialled them - and the impact it has had on teaching and learning.
