Voyage Education Partnership has launched a formal consultation on proposals to establish SEND Hubs at Carlton Road Academy, Park Academy, and Staniland Academy, building on the existing inclusive provision already in place at each school.

The proposed hubs are designed to support pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), particularly those with needs relating to communication and interaction and cognition and learning. The aim is to enable more children to access high‑quality specialist support while remaining in mainstream education settings close to home.

The show takes place at the academy on December 7th and 8th, with two shows on December 9th.

Rosie Walker, Teacher of Art and Drama at Haven High Academy, said: “We have seen that student involvement in our annual production plays a key role in their success in life, and can also improve their mental health by helping them master anxiety - which in turn leads to self-esteem soaring.

“Students who take part also form new relationships with their peers across the age groups – helping them make friends for life.”

Nica, who plays the Baroness/Evil Stepmother in the show, said: “Drama lessons here have given me a lot more self-esteem. Now when I am on stage I genuinely feel comfortable.

“The show will be great. It is funny and everyone has been putting so much into it.”

Molly, a Year 10 student, plays Buttons.

She said: “Rehearsals have been great fun, but hard at some points.

"Our teachers have been really supportive – we will have something for everyone in the show!”

Josh and Freddie play Ugly Sisters.

Josh said: “I’ve been acting since the age of 4 and want to go on to drama school when I leave Haven High.

“Our drama teachers here are amazing and it is great that the academy gives us this opportunity – everyone who wants to be involved is included.”

Freddie said: “It’s great fun to be in this panto - and for those who come to see it, it will be like seeing a show in any big theatre!”

For the past 15 years Haven High Academy has presented a musical production just prior to Christmas.

From High School Musical in 2008 to Snow White in 2022, staff and students have impressed audiences totalling over 17,000 people so far.

Miss Walker said: “We have gained a reputation for creating shows to rival professional productions.

"Students who have starred in them in the past are now moving onto professional careers in the industry.

“We are delighted that this year’s production of Cinderella will introduce many new faces to the Haven High Academy stage!”

The £900,000 state-of-the-art sports facility was made possible following contributions from Boston Town Deal's accelerated funding, the Voyage Education Partnership, the Football Foundation and the Medlock Trust.

The facility is already promoting various sports and physical activities, while bringing together groups of all ages and abilities to help improve wellbeing levels in the area.

While at the event to officially open the 3G pitch, Professor Van-Tam took some penalties against Haven High Academy pupil Sam - who trains with Aston Villa and England.

Representatives from the borough council and various local sporting organisations were also present during the opening event.

Matthew Van Lier, Headteacher at Haven High Academy, said: “We were so proud to have Professor Van-Tam visit our academy and officially open the 3G pitch facility here.

“The students were excited to show him their football skills and were surprised to see how well he kicked the ball!

“We presented him with one of our school ties and look forward to seeing him wear it as part of his future medical officer duties.”

After cutting the ribbon at Haven High Academy, Professor Van-Tam visited pupils at Park Academy for a tour of the school and a Q&A session with the young scientists there.

Professor Van-Tam said: ““It was a pleasure to visit the Boston schools and college and chat to the children and young people - my old primary school, Hawthorn Tree, Boston College, Haven High Academy and Park Academy.

“What fantastic staff, and how keen the students were to learn about how science has advanced so much during the pandemic.”.

The Voyage Education Partnership educates over 3,500 young people and employs over 450 staff. Haven High Academy, which has campuses in Marian Road and Tollfield Road, launched Slipstream with guests from local road safety organisations and an amazing riding display for pupils courtesy of professional BMX stunt rider Joe Sproat.

While performing his show, Mr Sproat emphasised the importance of wearing a cycle helmet whenever you get on a bicycle.

Damien Daly, organiser of the Slipstream project, said: "Slipstream is aiming to help provide some discipline for our pupils who are cycling to and from school.

"It is already proving very popular and we are seeing its effects - with more pupils than ever before wearing helmets when riding their bikes.

"We want to see less cars around both school campuses at the start and end of the academic day, and more bicycles - as this leads to healthier lifestyles for our pupils."

Any student at Haven High Academy can be part of the Slipstream scheme. As a member they receive free healthy breakfasts, can leave school earlier than other students, gain entrance to special events at the school, get discounts at High Street shops - and are also given their own locker in the same place they store their bike.

The school is setting up a bicycle repair area and offering subsidies on purchasing new bicycles too. These can then be paid for via the school on a weekly basis.

Mr Daly said: "To be part of Slipstream pupils must wear a helmet when cycling - and obviously are rewarded for doing so. We want to both encourage all of our students to ride safely and increase the number of children wearing helmets on Boston's roads."
